Steam locomotive class 1-4-0 Gr. 740
The Group 740, perhaps the largest of the Ferrovie dello Stato fleet, originally
comprised of 470 units built in two separate series.
The Gr.740 are one of the symbols of steam traction in Italy running in active
service for over sixty years doing their job in heading both passenger and goods
trains. The tender attached to this locomotive could either be the normal three
axeled with 12 mē water and 6 T of coal, or the bogie version with standard
increased load.
The model
reproduced is that of the prototype gr740 316 (wheel alignment 1-4-0), with
standard 22mē water tender mounted on bogies. The front lanterns are fully
operating. The brake system is also reproduced and so is the fully working
Walschaert gearing.
