Steam Locotender  Gr. 940 of FS.
The railway lines crossing the Apennines and the Alps have always had difficulty in operating due principally to the very sinuous track climbs with a steep gradient. Therefore the requirement to have locomotives with specific qualities, such as grip, tight cornered track. The Office of Studies of the FS  designed what turned out to be a very good locomotive, both for passenger trains as for goods, the Gr940.
The engine, generator and wheel alignment to which a front  "bissel" was added, all from the Gr 740, all around these different well proven elements, water tanks were added on both sides (and at the same time increasing the weight thus its grip)  a cab, with its fuel tank. A loco tender therefore was produced, with 1-C-1  allignment, and build in 50 examples, which therefore fully fulfilled the FS running and operational  requirementsnot to mention also the needs of service.
The model reproduced is that of the prototype Gr. 940 034 that until not so long ago  was still on goods service on the Como – Lecco line. The gearing is fully working and so are the two front lanterns, as too has the brack system been reproduced.
