Steam Locomotive "Mikado" Type 141R SNCF


The 141R Mikado’s  were actually commissioned in 1944 during WW2 by the French Liberation Forces, as the “Liberation” Class,  to the American and Canadian industries, which were building similar engines for the US Army Transportation Corps and  for the British War Department. They were meant to work the trains in the post-war period, at a time when most of the motive power was out of order. There were variants, depending on the firing of the boiler- coal-fired or oil-fired, wheels format- spoked or boxpok, livery - full black or dark green with red lining. A total of 1340 were built by the various companies Lima, Alco, Baldwin, Montreal Loco Works, Canadian Loco Works.
