Steam locomotive class 1-4-0 Gr. 741

Steam locomotive Gr. 741 401 FS for freight and passenger service.

In 1941 some locomotives of the Gr. 740 FS group, with wheel alignment 1-4-0 underwent major modifications such as replacement of their boilers and the addition of "Franco-Crosti” pre heaters.  Two different types therefore were created, the Gr. 743 with two pre heathers placed on both sides of the boiler, and the Gr. 741 with a single pre heater centrally placed on the locomotive chassis, and its smokestack on the right side. The boiler and cabin were raised from their originally allocated position on the chassis, to help accommodate the new additions to the mechanics. The firepan was also al a higher level, so appropriate modifications had also to be made to the tenders, to accommodate the difference in height. These transformations not only brought economic benefits due to a more rational use of fuel, but also increased track adherence due to increased weight.

Therefore the Gr. FS 741 ( thus also the Gr. FS 743) found  their use on the more rugged lines, in both freight and passenger service.

The model reproduces the prototype Gr. 7   and attention to detail is well noticeable, with brake system shown, and the Walschaert gearing and operating front lanterns. The 22 m² water tender with sprung bogies.

Length of the model cm. 24.
